Position Purpose:
We seek dedicated Teaching Assistants/Teacher Aides to support students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Under the supervision of classroom teachers, you'll help with instruction, implement behavior strategies, engage students, and provide individual and small-group assistance. If you have patience, flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to student growth, this role is for you.
Essential Job Functions:
- Reinforce skills in subjects like reading, math, and computer instruction.
- Work with students individually and in small groups.
- Assist with classroom prep, exercises, tests, and record-keeping.
- Manage classroom behavior for a safe learning environment.
- Support students in non-instructional areas and on field trips.
- Help students with special needs achieve IEP goals and develop study skills.
- Participate in the IEP process and student evaluations.
- Assist guidance or administration as needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Follow instructions and perform arithmetic operations.
- Proficiency with computers and software (e.g., Google Classroom, Docs).
- Maintain confidentiality and build supportive relationships with students.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Candidates must supervise and assist students throughout the school day, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. This role requires sound judgment, effective communication, and collaboration in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications Profile:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of college-level coursework or passing an exam per the No Child Left Behind Act.
- Experience with special needs children is desirable.
Salary Range:
Salary is per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, based on experience and certification status. The starting rate is Grade 2, Step 1 ($16.75 per hour).
